FESTIVITIES OF CALA LLONGA
Next Saturday Cala Llonga celebrates the Assumption of the Virgin, its patron saint, but the festive program includes a lot of activities between Friday and Sunday. The musical performances in different catering establishments open to boost their activity and the exceptional sanitary measures on the occasion of Covid-19 mark a party in which the traditional sand castle contest, the car parade or a drive-in session also stand out, among others.
Music, as has already been said, is the main protagonist and, in fact, Friday the 14th is the only planned activity. Between 4 pm and 11 pm, there will be half a dozen performances in a similar number of establishments. This option of concerts in bars and restaurants was well received at the Es Canar festivals and allows this cultural activity to be reconciled with the necessary economic revitalization while ensuring security measures.
The next day, Saturday, August 15, is the Diada, which will open with an exhibition of open water swimming by the Santa Eulària Swimming Club, followed by the now traditional sandcastle contest. At 12.30 pm, in the open chapel, Solemn Mass and later, a parade of classic motorcycles. In the afternoon, starting at 7:00 p.m., a parade of decorated cars will be followed by a storyteller on the beach by Encarna de las Heras. To end the day, performances by Solpost and AYKYA also on the beach.
To end the festivities, music Sunday in different establishments in Cala Llonga and, from 10.30 pm, drive-in cinema next to the La Vela restaurant parking lot. Admission is free but a prior reservation is required at www.cinemaparadisoibiza.eventbrite.es. The film that will be screened is ‘Yesterday’, a Danny Boyle comedy with a composer who is the only person who remembers The Beatles, which he used to throw away his career. The screening can be followed in the original version in English or dubbed into Spanish and a maximum of four people per vehicle will be allowed.
Outside of the Cala Llonga festival program, the drive-in cinema activity will also take place on Saturday 22 and 29 August, at 9:00 p.m., with the films ‘Fighting with the family’ and ‘Beasts of the wild south’.
