Ibiza celebrates the 20th edition of its popular Medieval Fair, an event that, with the passage of time, has gained weight as a tourist attraction both nationally and internationally, and which, as is tradition, marks the kick-off of the “summer season” on the island.
This will be a very special edition, as it marks two decades since Ibiza town was declared as a World Heritage Site by Unesco. With this impressive event, Ibiza offers a complete trip into the past to teach people about the island’s incredible medieval legacy. There will be four days full of festivities that will start with a spectacular inauguration on the afternoon of Thursday, May 9.
There will activities and entertainment for adults and children
The streets of Dalt Vila will be dressed in fabrics, shields and flags in memory of the city’s past and the architecture of the city centre will help to recreate an authentic medieval scene and bring the customs of the past to life.
During the four days of celebrations, the streets of Ibiza’s historic centre will host all kinds of musical and theatrical performances for the enjoyment of adults and children alike (falconry, archery, Arab dancing…), as well as exhibitions of farm animals, birds of prey, jugglers and all kinds of traveling shows. Different choir groups will also participate in the Medieval Fair and perform at a number of churches around the old town.
In addition, more than 200 stalls will line the streets during the Medieval Fair selling a large selection of traditional handicrafts from the island and beyond. There will be no shortage of gastronomic delicacies either, with different food and drink areas distributed throughout the historic neighbourhoods of the city.
And last but not least, in the Medieval Fair there will also be space for scientific learning, for the rediscovery of the past and the history of our millenary city. Through a great variety of historical recreations, visitors will be completely immersed in Medieval Eivissa.
