ONLINE: International Day against sexual exploitation and human trafficking

On the occasion of the International Day against sexual exploitation and human trafficking, the Sant Josep de sa Talaia City Council organizes two talks that will take place, firstly, the problem of women who suffer from these blights, closely linked to machismo structural of our society, and you will hear the story of a survivor who has been an activist in this struggle. Then, Médicos del Mundo will explain the situation of women in prostitution in Ibiza.

Who will open the talks will be Joy Amen Omoruyi, who is living an empowerment process in which she wants to share her experience with the conviction that it will help many other women, as explained to us by Actua Contra la Trata (ACT), the organization that collaborates in this effort. Her talk is entitled ‘Trafficking in women for sexual exploitation: Joy’s experience’ and will begin at 6:00 pm next Wednesday, September 23.

Omoruyi speaks on behalf of so many Nigerian women who suffer sexual exploitation in countries like ours, trapped in nets of slavery, a mission in which she is very excited and motivated to continue, according to Alicia Giménez, ACT coordinator who will be in charge of translating the intervention of Joy, who does not speak Spanish.

Before listening to her, Giménez will give a brief explanation of the work carried out by ACT in Navarra with women in a situation of prostitution, also from the Las Poderosas group, to which Omoruyi belongs, and actions that they are developing with the aim of becoming “agents of change and referents »to help other women from their own experience.

The second talk will be given by Rocío López and Luiz Felipe Pinto and is entitled ‘#Prostitucionuaicrua. The reality of prostitution in Ibiza’ explained by Doctors of the World. The talk will begin at 7:30 p.m., right after listening to Joy’s experience.
