MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART OF IBIZA (MACE)
The Museum of Contemporary Art of Ibiza (MACE) was inaugurated by the Town Hall of Ibiza, in 1969, thanks to the impulse of the 1st Ibiza Biennial that had been held in 1964. It is, therefore, one of the oldest contemporary art museums in Spain. Its headquarters has always been in the Weapons Hall and warehouses at Prova, one of the most emblematic buildings in the historic centre of Ibiza, Dalt Vila. This building, designed in 1727 by Simón Poulet, has been the object of an extensive renovation that has lasted five years given the archaeological remains found.
The museum has reopened in the spring of 2012. MACE keeps in its collections; always very committed to the avant-garde, funds from different backgrounds, among which include the awarded works of the Biennial and Ibizagrafic and the engraving collections of the donation of the gallery owner Carl van der Voort.
